Re the insurance claim, don't just settle for the truck. Personal injury, mental duress, you name it. And don't accept the insurance company estimate of value - they'll try to give you low wholesale. As much as I hate to agree with FastEddy on this one, I completely agree. With one modification: lawyer up. You'll need it. Those insurance companies have vicious lawyers, and you don't want to fight them without the same. I speak from experience.

Holy crap! As if car crashes aren't frightening enough, to have to deal with a drug-crazed whacko, with your wife and kids in the car!
Terrible shame about the truck, but it can be replaced - you and your family can't.
Glad you're all safe and you kept your wits about you.

Glad everyone is ok. I have seen and heard of so many serious accidents in Monteros, including a few I those I know were in and everyone is able to drive away...Accept for one crazy semi sandwich I recall posted on here. Just keep the truck, what the hell, not worth much so use it up. You can probably fix the driving straight issue, assuming it is not frame. I had one T-boned and slammed into a curb, had to replace the rear diff eventually due to a bent tube. Justice also had to do that from a spectacular T-bone if I recall.

Whatever happened to that guy whose Montero took on a head-on from a F-250 on the freeway because the Ford driver was drunk? As I recall, he was saying he was going to be in the hospital for quite a while because of multiple broken bones, but I don't think he ever posted up later on. That was the worst I've seen and he still made it out alive.
I've seen roll-overs where the majority of the glass didn't even break, T-bones, rear-enders, head-ons, and I'm just really, really impressed by how freaking tough they are.
I had a guy rear end my '87 coming off the freeway one day and he put a dent about the size of half an orange in my bumper, but it virtually totaled the front end of his new Dodge pickup. Dang it, that spilled some of my iced tea!
Glad to hear everyone is O.K.

I'm glad you and your family are ok, and happy that someone else's insurance gets to take care of the costs for you.
FWIW, whomever estimated the speed at the time of the accident at 90-100mph has no idea what they're talking about. The guy in the G5 may have been driving at that speed at some point beforehand, but the speed at the time of the collision wasn't more than 40-50 mph. Having worked in a bodyshop for a number of years, I've seen many vehicles that have been in collisions at highway speeds (65-75 mph) with moveable objects (i.e. - other vehicles as opposed to, say, a solid concrete bridge abutment), and the damage sustained at those speeds seldom leaves a vehicle recognizable, much less as intact as that G5 is. A 90-100mph collision with another vehicle dissipates so much energy that it would leave both vehicles as piles of twisted wreckage, with very little chance of anyone surviving in either vehicle. There are plenty of YouTube videos of high speed crashes that will give you an idea of the type of destruction that they cause.

Wow, my little bro and mom live in Venice and I've been by the Honda dealership so many times myself. He very well could have been going high speed since you were probably doing 45-50mph through there. Definitely were being divinely watched over.
FYI I'll be back down to visit after Christmas for a week.

We were moving at 45mph, he was moving at 90-100. So the impact=45-55mph. We were all moving in the same direction.

That makes sense then, I didn't realize that you were moving also.
