I think that's way too much for that engine. It's gonna need a complete rebuild. You would be much better off in the long run getting a crate motor for $4K. By the time you buy that engine and then rebuild it you will be into it $10K. You can plan on about $4K to rebuild the long block and an additional $4K to rebuild all the accessories. Log story short, get a new crate motor from Hyundai.

I'd be terrified of "we really don't know but we were assured it was a low miles....." line.

Spence, I think your right. Ive been thinking about all the time and money i would be putting into a rebuild and became depressed. Im hopefully goin to nashville to buy a raider with 124,000 miles on it. I will probably just switch it to a weber and do some of the recommended cooling system work

Very true, but i think that is true of any JDM engine. They all say they are from low mileage vehicles.

However as others have chimed in, as soon as you touch a diesel for repairs you will be into deep $$$. $4K for a new crate engine diesel is the way to go.

If it's not far from you, pull the upper timing cover and check the condition of the belt. bring some hose and a gallon of diesel. Fire it up and hear it idle and give it a few revs, even cold it shouldn't ash much. Then if it's all good, runs nice and doesn't piss oil or fuel out it's worth the price, do a timing job and run it.
