My guess is the engine has blowby. I rebuilt a 4d55 in 2005 and added a new 4d56 head and water cooled turbo. After looking all the receipts it cost me $7800 and that did not include the purchase price or the 100 hours of labor and my time is worth something. As for the Raider the price seems quite high. I think they are hanging their hat on it has low miles, but in the end it is a 25 year old vehicle. I have see nice 2001 Gen III Montero's going for that price. The owner says its original but I can't see that cuz I haven't seen any others with the paint around the sliding rear windows. They are all black plastic. Or am I wrong on that? Probably should stay away from the 4d56t. What would be a fair price for a raider like that? $2000?
