Getting the Wheeling Fever
For such a sturdy rig, why are they selling so cheaply ? I understand the repair end of them can be costly, but I can't think of a better utility vehicle to drive around then this monty. I love broncos, owned several. but the mpg and the access to the rear for a baby seat moved me to the monty. And with that, and the "power" of the v6, manual tranny, its just fun to drive around. My daughter absolutely loves "the box" and would probably disown me if I sold her. I have written an earlier post similar to this and I apologize in advance for the non repair/ mechanical info NOT located in this post, but I can't help but to enjoy and admire this vehicle. I hope to keep her as long as I can, unlike most of you (Im assuming) I daily drive her 20-30 miles per day. I pulled up along a newer one (02-03?) and couldn't help noticing the visual similarities between them, little bit more curvy, but spare, rear door windows, rear door, license light/handle all look the same. Hope my monty runs for a long long time.

There's nothing wrong with the Gen 1's, but I like my Gen 2 five speed as it has all the Gen 2 upgrade that most do to their Gen 1's.

I think most on here will dispute the implied statement in your title question. Also, without the Gen I, there would not have been a Gen II, etc.

The Gen I was raced all over the place, and mostly in stock trim. The Gen II plus, not so much and were heavily modified to compete in the classes entered...I'm specifically think Dakar here.

The only Gen IIs in my yard have been visitors, but I have a gaggle of Gen Is.

Do not fret, padowan.

What Russ said, globally. For the US, we like how under appreciated they are (and other Mitsus in general) as it makes them great values. Not too mention them then being a bit uncommon- it's core to "being in the club."

I for one don't like to march with the crowd. You define the intelligence of a mob just like you do with a committee, take the smartest guy's IQ and divide it by the number in the group. This explains Jeeps. I used to like IH travellalls and scouts, and the old original Land Rovers, and LC's up thru the 80 series, but the Mitsu's are cheap, reliable, tough, and agile, and the quality of the group is a lot better. I'd never have KrzyDav on an LC forum, or hastoys, or any of you, probably, and I value those friendships, long distance though they may be.

The problem as I see it is that the people who have them love them. If'n anything goes wrong though, it($$$) can add up quick. Here is a good group, I will probly never meet a majority of people here, but it's definitely different than the heepers. I am the lone non-jeep guy in a jeep club, and the newbies snub me every chance they get. Until we get out on the trails. Then they know why I am in the club. It seems most of them are a little short in the peni$$ department and are trying to make up for it with all the bolt-ons that are available for the heeps.

as to partially answer my question, I walk outta work this afternoon and in parking space number one is a 1984 Landcruiser fj60. A lil old lady is getting out of it ! I walk over and compliement her on her rig. We end up talking for about 15 minutes, how her husband refuses to sell it, but it just won't die, it has 250k... I gave her my number and told her if her husband has a change of heart to keep my number...in case. I point out my nearby monty and she smiles and recognizes it as a mitsu. I told her I once had a 88 fj62 with the fuel injection and we share some more laughs. You just don't know who you are going to bump into....

There was a gent in Sacramento that had seen my Raider on the Wire. He saw me in traffic one day, whilst driving his 91 RS. We made eye contact as we passed eachother. I simply pulled over and we met after he did a U. I sold him some things, helped install them, he said thanks and drove away into the sunset. Never saw him again, but his meeting statement to me was: "Aren't you Russell, the parts guy?"

That's what I'm talking about with this group.
