First off, thanks in advance for helping me out. I'm stuck. I have one the electrical disconnected and the lower bolt out, and I have the tools to get at the top bolt now, but after that I'm not sure what the best procedure for removing and reinstalling the starter is exactly. Will I need to disconnect the front driveline from the diff?? Will I need to drain the t-case and remove the driveline completely?
Thanks again.

I was always able to fish it out the top without removing anything else, iirc...

Thank you both! I'll remove it from the top, then. Not looking forward to it. Been pretty hard to motivate myself to get out to the garage lol.

use a series of extensions and a universal joint, get at the top bolt from mid truck. Makes it easy. Once you get it you'll be like AHHHHH I GET IT! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I use a flexible end 14mm ratchet flat wrench and another closed, fixed end wrench for leverage and do the entire job from the driver fender. No getting under the vehicle this way.

Thanks again! I've actually had the transmission out before, but did not remove the starter at that time- I just let it hang out in the engine bay while I put a new clutch in. I'll get out there when I can find the energy (still getting over being sick) and force myself to do it. I suppose if it were just the starter it would be easier but after I get it started again, I've got to track down the coolant leak and I am NOT looking forward to it.

There are three hoses on the rear of the engine, behind the carb and above the starter. You'll already be there...

I pulled mine about a year ago and replaced with Oriely 65 buck special. It is special alright. Within the first month or two I noticed it was not fully engaging the flywheel and started skipping off the flywheel gear. I know the flywheel is fine old starter just died never had that issue not once. Now I still have the cheap starter installed, but it's gotten worst. Takes 2-3 tries to get it to engage, and it better crank quick cause the piece of crap starter disengages after about the first revolution.
Not looking forward to replacing it again either just been dealing with it. Won't be putting another OrEiley special back in that's for sure.
