I use a flexible end 14mm ratchet flat wrench and another closed, fixed end wrench for leverage and do the entire job from the driver fender. No getting under the vehicle this way.

I'd try that but my 4 cylinder is a diesel and it's easy to get to the starter since there's no manifold covering it.
