I pulled mine about a year ago and replaced with Oriely 65 buck special. It is special alright. Within the first month or two I noticed it was not fully engaging the flywheel and started skipping off the flywheel gear. I know the flywheel is fine old starter just died never had that issue not once. Now I still have the cheap starter installed, but it's gotten worst. Takes 2-3 tries to get it to engage, and it better crank quick cause the piece of crap starter disengages after about the first revolution.

Not looking forward to replacing it again either just been dealing with it. Won't be putting another OrEiley special back in that's for sure.

I'm going to try to fix mine, or install a new solenoid if I have to. Or, get it rebuilt locally by a reputable shop for about $90 if I can't fix it myself. Gotta get the cash together for that first.

Well I ended up decided that rather than fish it from the top, it would come right out if I disconnected the driveline from the front differential. I was right. It practically fell out. Had to use about 3 feet of extensions to get at that bolt from behind the transfer case. I need to invest in another 2' extension. The one I have isn't enough, I"m always having to borrow tools to do it.

I tried getting the solenoid off. The two Phillips head bolts will NOT budge. I sure wish they'd used hex headed bolts! I might have to cut them off and replace them, unless y'all have any fantastic suggestions. I could try some penetrating oil I suppose, but those things are on pretty snug. Broke a flathead screwdriver I used to try to get a good bite. Vice grips just slipped off (not enough side area).

I'm all ears!

This was a serious contributing factor to me removing the 2.6 mitsu motor, and replacing it with a 4.3.

Took the starter to a friends house tonight and got the screws out with a impact screwdriver. The inside of the solenoid was pretty dirty so he cleaned it up, put it back together and bench tested it. It worked beautifully. Going to reinstall it soon and test it.
