Agreed - I've never come across any "fix in a bottle" that ultimately didn't do more harm than good. Your only choice at this point is to repair it properly and hope that your bottom end hasn't been damaged. I think your flushing plan sounds like a good start, hopefully your bearings are still in decent shape.
