Quotes of myself out of those threads.
Bottom line is that a wagoneer D44 is the ultimate answer for dirt cheap axle.
Bolt pattern for the wheels is the same, it is 2 inches wider than the rear axle, it is drivers side drop, it has every locker option on earth made for it.
You can dream about getting a 60, or a portal, or even a rockwell, but the priuces to fit those are hellabucks.
IF I were going to do a coil setup, I would study the crap out of stock suspension setups. Then go look at a long arm TJ setup. Take measurements, and pitcutes, and more measurements and pictures. Then go buy some steel tube, spring buckets, and more steel, and go to town. Start duplicating.
The main advantage I see to coils is that you can mount the axle further foward, and not have a front leaf spring mount sticking out. If you did it right, you could extend your wheelbase, and have a 0 degree approach angle.
You will also hear alot of web wheelers criticizing leafs, and such as inferrior, or not worth doing a SAS. Alot of that is hooey, and you have to look at who is saying it also. ALOT of that speak comes from people who have NO experience with either.
OF course I would rather have coils!!! but hey... the added ease, and simplicity of a leaf setup made it worthwhile for me to go that route.
As for angles.. I basically duplicated the wagoneer. I made that axle think it was going right back into the wagoneer it came out of. Caster angle, all of it.
Safety is also pretty important here guys. Remember.. You have to get on top of this creation, and drive it 70 mph down the interstate. IF a weld breaks, and a control arm comes off.... If a steering joint pops out.... You are going down in a blaze of stupidity. and unfortunantly you might take someone with you.
LOL this made me laugh.
