"The largest earthmoving company in the world"

You can name 'em. Caterpillar!

Tell me Thos, how many 95 SR's have you seen around there? Any? Are you in the 'big city' or out of town? I still have lots of friends around there.

Good write-up on the repair. Could help others in the future.

Well yes it is Caterpillar, the one horse this town has been ridin for the past 85 or so years.

As for other Montys, they are far and few between. Occasionally my son will bring home a picture of one he has seen around town, kinda our version of bird watching, but when we do see one it is usually 2000 or newer and fancy, 22s rather than 33s.

It's strange, Mitsubishi builds the Outlander about 50 miles from here but I would not say that they are too popular around here either. Makes it very difficult to find used parts.

Well, there were a couple of horses at one time. Keystone Wire was a biggie, and the region has become a big health care draw.

I was graduating from ISU in Normal when the Diamond Star plant was being completed, if that gives you some idea of how long I've been gone from there. I still get back to visit, but not too often, and always when the weather's good.

got a tank of nitrogen out and put the hose into the drain plug

That's called backpurging- when the back side of a weld gets to a certain temperature, it'll react with oxygen in the air. And the oil inside, which will burn.

So the nitrogen protects the back side, just as the co2/nitrogen/argon mix does the front...

pretty cool.
