Oh hey, I almost forgot, I need the ends of the a/c hoses that attach to the '90 Mighty Max's a/c compressor. They're different from a Montero's in that they attach directly instead of screwing onto a manifold. TIA

I've got an impact gun, and a pretty good one, too. Unless yours is something really special, I wouldn't expect any different results. These things are stuck tight.

Is the hoses A/N or Bolt/and/O-ring on the compressor ...'Most' Mitsz's have a adapter bolted on to the compressor that can be changed to deal with the hoses ... I'm off to J-yard-X this weekend if I can help .. We have (or had) a 98 Full Monty with air locker up here too ...If its not been plundered .. Let me know ...

HazT, both my new compressor and the one that came with the engine I got from you (the 2.4) have two holes where the hoses with their special ends plug in with an o-ring on the and a bolt holds each one in place. I've seen the parts break-down schematic and it shows the ends built right into the hoses. On Monteros there are manifolds that attach to the compressor and the hoses screw onto the manifolds - not so with these. Here's a link that shows the compressor:

Compressor Picture

That link also lists other vehicles that used that compressor. If you're going to a yard, could you have a look, please?

The compressor is on the driver's side. The hoses come out of the side.

Did you see the link I posted?

Yes on the link ... Its a 'three bolt' comp as in what the link shows ...right...

Junkyard-X has every DOA Mitzu known to man

But..A 2.4 truck ...

Soooo.. I have to do some digging ..But the three bolt comp is on a lot of Mitzu's and the 2.4 in a Monty has lots of room around it too.. I got you valley boys covered from the mountain above here.. No A/C in the 'Valley of the Sun' is not good .. Its been 95deg on the mountain here so you poor jokes in the valley must be cooking ... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

HazT, negative on the "three-bolt." In that picture, which is misleading because the compressor is shown upside-down from the way it's mounted, the suction (inlet) and discharge (outlet) are shown on the lower left side of the picture. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think each of the two lines joins with one retainer bolt, and I believe they are separate. If they are coupled together, they would join with two retainer bolts. According to the Auto Zone site, this compressor was also used on '92 and '93 Monteros.

Along other lines, I was able to loosen the nuts that hold the upper control arm shafts today. The trick is to remove the zerks and use a loooong breaker bar while they are still bolted into the truck. I had to bolt the driver's side arm back in to get it, and I had to turn it upside down to get the front nut loose because there wasn't enough room to get the socket on with the breaker while it faced toward the front.

Installing the new shaft is pretty easy, but the shop manual is quite specific about getting the measurement of the relationship of the shaft's bolt holes that connect it to the frame as the measure from each end of the control arm. Each half-turn (180 degrees) of the shaft changes caster, and it does it by quite a bit. The easy way to get it right is with a micrometer/caliper, measuring from the edge of the bolt holes to the place on the control arm that the manual indicates, which is the outer edge of the hole in the arm. The measurements have to be as close to each other as is possible.

I still have to press in the new ball joint into that upper arm, but that looks pretty simple.

I'm still fighting the lower arm. The lower front bushing I screwed up doesn't want to come out. I have the new one to put in, though. Next time I'll use more soap and do it indoors so it doesn't dry out so fast while I'm working. I've never really had trouble with these before, so I guess it just wasn't as dry out the last times I've done it. Need to get this part done so I can reassemble the driver's side and get on with this.

Unrelated note, went tubing again yesterday and my tan is really coming along. The 'scenery' there is impressive.

I got the old bushing out of the lower arm (front bushing) and the new one pressed in. Got the ball joint bolted in but not torqued up yet. Got the upper arm fully assembled. The boot for the upper ball joint is a pain to get over the base of the upper ball joint I'll probably assemble everything and try to force it over the ball joint afterwards, when the air inside the boot is forced out by squishing it.

I reordered the driver's side differential seal, since the one I got was wrong. Looking at the assembly, it looks like there's a metal cap over the bushing itself. Anybody know what's up with that?

Ordered new pistons for the calipers. The caliper rebuild kits I have only have the boot, clip and seals. I've never rebuilt calipers before...I'm replacing the soft lines, too.

Getting closer to reassembling the driver's side!
