I was able to do basically the same thing you are asking. The tension pulley for the 93-94 v6 is different than the 90-92 v6, so not sure if this will work for you.
After draining the coolant and getting back into it, I was able to remove the tension pulley, replace water pump, then slowly tighten the bolts for the tension pulley to get it back on (about a 1/4 turn on each bolt at a time).
