Mr 87monty..I would like to thank you for going out of your way and taking your time to do this ...

Now if I may ask ...Your cutting and milling a mitzu trans bell housing to get your bell...

What about the removable bolt on bell on the Mazda/Mitsu motored trucks...?

Would be easier in my opinion, will still need an adapter in similar thickness (maybe not exact thickness) '87 and I chatted about the removable bells early on. I have a V5MT1 bell for a 4 cyl bolt pattern (from diesel) and we compared measurements. Very close. I'd expect the Mazda/Mits dimensions are similar. The AX5/AX15 input shafts are longer than the KM145, so not only need the adapter to make up the bolt pattern differences, but also to be used as a spacer.

Great project for sure!

That's looks like a pretty rough grind to me. Hope the machinist doesn't do heads that way.

It may look that way but its pretty smooth.
Should be a good brake in for the clutch disk. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks its been a great experience and fun to be honest. As for the bolt on bell I think that would be very easy to come up with. all you would need to figure out it is the thickness of the adapter to get your end result.

An adapter to fit the AX-15 would also fit the NV3550 jeep trans, with a higher torque rating and a 4.0-1 first gear.

Have you figured out the pilot bearing yet? Early AX-15's use one size, (15mm). 1992 and later ones used a larger nose on the input shaft, as do NV3550's (.750").

The only thing that would need to be done is having the flywheel machined out to fit the bigger pilot bearing.
Also making sure the clutch disk would stay in the maximum
Surface area. All that's left is adapter thickness to get the right spacing for the trans input shaft. To me this project has proved anything's possible if you plane it out.

So I have made a ring for the bigger rear drive shaft yoke.
I made it out of 1/4" plate. for a perfect fit, it needs to be tight to make a good tig weld. This is what my dimension's are 3.945 ID x 4.750 OD perfect to drill holes for a nice solid mount. I tried to upload a picture but had some weird 404 error when I clicked on it?

I did the opposite of that with my Toyota axle swap, The Toy centering bore is smaller than on the Montero so I had to make a downsizing ring for the Mitsu flange to accept the Yota yoke.

Good work dude!
