I did the opposite of that with my Toyota axle swap, The Toy centering bore is smaller than on the Montero so I had to make a downsizing ring for the Mitsu flange to accept the Yota yoke.

Good work dude!

Thanks Toasty! it's stuff like this that is very time consuming, but well worth the effort in the end result.
I want this to hold up for a long time!!!
Project is coming along great, two more weekends of coaching soccer and im free at last to really get stuff done

The part I like the best is the nvg242 tcase. All the benefits of selectrac in an nvg case with all the options that makes available...

Which vehicle and model year did the 242 come from? Looks like a cable driven speedo so it must be '88 to '91 and I assume it is a 21 spline input to match to the AX5?

Hi Phl, I think it was a 1990 and yes 21 spline unit.
I can ask but im pretty positive that's the year it came from. I do have the AX5 tranny in my Montero and fits really nice. I went with a Np 231 for now because you have to run both front and rear drive shafts with the NP242.
After I install the dana 44 I will go with the AWD

Fantastic information. Thanks. Would also be helpful if you added the part numbers for the AX5 upgrade. I assume they are from Toyota - except the gear retainer which you built.

No problem, I will check into my parts list and report back.

Here you go! These guys are great to work with and parts are priced right.

5th gear set,

5th gear needle bearing (Must have, this is a one piece bearing, an upgrade from the Ax5 split bearing crap)
http://cobratransmission.com/toyota-g40-g52-g57-g58-g59-5th-gear-needle-50045028-1

Rebuild parts kit(Must have)

Front input shaft seal

I can run 456 gears and 35" tires all day long with these upgrades.

So I cant seem to leave things alone. I built a custom cross member using the outer sections of the stock unit.
the transfer case is hanging off the back of 5 speed with no support(Factory). So I made a bullet proof one
The center rubber mount isn't bolted up yet because I need to pull it back down and give er a paint job.
