Hi Phl, I think it was a 1990 and yes 21 spline unit.
I can ask but im pretty positive that's the year it came from. I do have the AX5 tranny in my Montero and fits really nice. I went with a Np 231 for now because you have to run both front and rear drive shafts with the NP242.
After I install the dana 44 I will go with the AWD <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
