I'm trying to help a friend here. All fair warning--this post may be long and rambling.

He has a D-50 pickup with a G54B engine. Both the engine and the head are toast, beyond any possibility of repair. The intake manifold on that engine has staggered mounting bolts. The carb is apparently okay. This is a wide (13-1/4 transmission bolt) engine.

He has my 1980 Colt wagon, with a G54B engine, also wide transmission bolts. It has been off-road for several years due to smog laws. My engine was going to go into his D-50. Something happened to the carb while he was pulling the engine from the Colt, so that carb is out of the picture. The carb from the D-50 will apparently not fit on the intake from the Colt.

The two intake manifolds are different. There was a switch in design sometime between the two vehicle years. See

for that information. The older Colt has the intake mounting bolts one above the other. The slightly newer D-50 has the bolts staggered.

So, what he has is a good block, a good (vertical bolt) head, two good intake manifolds, and a decent carb which he cannot use. The working carb fits onto the staggered bolt intake, which will not fit on the good head.

What he needs is either a good carb which will fit on the vertical bolt intake, OR a good head to which he can attach the staggered bolt intake and the carb which he has.

I think I got that right. Clear? Not very. Any suggestions or help? BTW, this vehicle, when finished, must pass California smog, therefore must have a stock carb.
