Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am finally getting around to ordering parts and getting started on the long overdue maintenance items. I replaced the windshield washer pump, wipers front/back, and a new gas cap yesterday.

Today I ordered the following:

idler arm
OEM rear axle seals
heater motor resistor
new v-belts and serpentine except timing
OEM fuel filler hose

On my lunch today I want to start knocking out items that only take sweat equity while waiting on the parts.

weld hood latch notch
clearance front driver tire rubbing
grease/lube driver rear door lock linkage
grease/lube sunroof track
grease/lube rear lock, keyhole, and linkage
adjust e-brake

I've also been thinking about running a motorcycle hitch hauler for bike projects. Unfortunately my receiver setup is only 1 1/4". I am sure most are setup for 2", and I want it to obviously be safe enough. Anyone know of a good solid aftermarket receiver that will bolt up to the stock location? Would it be able to handle a 400 lb. motorcycle?

Something like this: motorcycle hauler

For a receiver, keep your eyes open in the Junkyard. I got one off a four door that was 2" and pretty much bolted up to my 2 door.

Unfortunately they are like hens teeth around here. I've only seen one in the past few years, and had I know at the time, would have taken way more spare parts.

I have the same question. I really want to put a 2" receiver on my 1990 LWB. I see this one, which looks tantalizingly like it would fit my truck:

But all of the text says that it won't. I don't know whether that's a statement about the bolt placement or perhaps that it doesn't clear the bottom of the stock bumper? They point me to this one instead:

http://www.amazon.com/Curt-Custom-Class-...3937&sr=8-6

Which is both 1.25" and more expensive. Has anyone ever tried the 13091 on a pre-1992 vehicle?

I have that Curt hitch. It'll fit both a Gen 1 and 2, but since my '86 doesn't have a rear bumper on it, I don't know if it clears.

I found this link interesting about the Curt hitch 13091.

If the measurements are correct, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't clear the bumper. It would only raise it just slightly higher than my current receiver, and it has at least an inch clearance. I am probably going to order it soon and see.

Just cut the 1 1/4" away and weld (or have someone you know weld) a boxtube with a 2" inner diameter in there instead. Drill the hole for the pin and bobs your uncle.

Thought about that as well. It's still an option, but I would have to have my buddy weld it up for me. I don't mind doing the light duty stuff, but hanging a 400 plus pound bike off of it is more than I want to risk. The Curt unit looks plenty beefy enough as is.

Found this link as well.

My receiver sticks out past the bumper and down though. Maybe I need to look at it a bit more and see what's going on there.

If you and your friend are up for a litle cut 'n weld you could make a new plate to mount to the frame with the 2" hitch tube passing through it. There should be a circular hole in the center of the frame mount that you can cut out as a square for the hitch reciver to drop into giving it more support.
I did this on my gen 2 and welded everything to the frame. Downside is that if you tow low built trailers you need a hefty drop to keep it level and that puts some of stress on the frame.
