Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have replaced all three belts and both idler / tensioner pulleys. I have adjusted belts a dozen times for firmness / tightness / loosen, tighten, but they still CHIRP ! What am I missing here ? I added a washer to pulley below alternator to see if perhaps there was a misalignment, then removed it. I have swapped out pulley for pulley so they have both been in both locations. I broke down and brought it to a shop and he stethascoped it and found noise to be coming from center idler pulley (I replaced), the one about 11oclock to the fan. I am out of ideas. I have not used soap or belt dressings or lube of any sort. Help !!

What, am I on the blacklist here or something ? No one out there in the Mitsu community can add anything about my belt chirp issue ? Do I need to apologize here on the forum for something I said or didn't say ? Fasteddy, did I hurt your feelings about the part number snafu ?
Thanks to the peeps out there who assisted me in the past, Fasteddy included. Take care, I will lurk if the moderator will let me but if no ones going to answer my posts I will save my time then.

I'd answer you man, its no secret that I'm not short of words- I just don't *know*. If I were you I'd be taking some sandpaper to those pully's, especially the one that's chirping, and also inspect your belts for glazing of any sort, and do some googling for tried and true methods. But get that pully roughed up so that there's no sheen on it, just dull metal and try again.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had roughed up the pulleys about a week ago, with sandpaper and that seemed to help a bit. Tonight what I did was eyeball the 3 pulleys I suspect: Alternator, lining it up best as I could with the center idler pulley and then lining that up to the fan or water pump pulley. I detected the idler was "in" too much, by my naked eye, and the straight edge I utilized seemed to show the same. I placed a thin washer on the back of the idler pulley and tightened it all back up again. I don't think my new belt is glazed yet, my front of my motor is dry, no leaks I can detect anywhere. Before I tightened it all back up I eyeballed the second idler pulley, the one located directly above the power steering. It seemed to be just a bit off center but I had never detected chirping off that one...so I started her up and it was quiet, quieter than I ever heard her. My hopes are held in check - this has happened before. Tommorow morning, or tonight if I decide to watch more TV, I will let her cool down and try again, that's my real test. I watched a few videos and real a sh$tload of articles on this subject and the conclusion seems to be either the pulley (both mine are now new) the belt (new, but I would have replaced it again...next) or mis alignment. The misalignment factor I hadn't attempted yet, only because nothing had been loosened, changed out or adjusted on any part in the front of my engine prior to the start of the squeal / chirp. But if tomorrow AM comes and shes quiet, I will assume I aligned these suckers back up and then I suppose time will tell. Thanks Geo, for responding, and again, if I offended anyone, sorry. I'm just like some of you guys, I have a Monty budget, I rather buy new things for her instead of a car payment any day of the week, I work 50-55 hours, come home grab a beer when I can and scoot into the garage for as long as my 2 year old will let me. This chirp / squeal has been haunting me for weeks. I pray shes done squealin.

I don't think you ticked anybody off, either, and I think the general consensus is we just don't know why this is happening, either. It seems like you're doing everything right, so what else is there to do? I don't know.

The only other thing I might postulate is, could there be something that's holding the free travel of the belts back? Like if one of the accessories is going bad and the truck is having to work against the force to turn the belts? I have no clue.

P.S., it takes a he!! of a lot more than that to p!$$ off FastEddy.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
woke up, its about 51 degrees here in the LV desert. Perfect ! Went out to the garage, turned the key and no chirping ! Of course this could all change as I take her for a drive, but I haven't heard her this quiet in weeks.

so how did I get here ?
1: purchased new belts 2: sanded down pulleys to increase friction, grip 3: never used any dressings or lubes on my belts 4: tightened serpentine belt to point of being able to bend at 90 degree angle at longest gap between pulleys...and most important lesson (for me) make sure your pulleys line up. Mine did not, and it took me 3 weeks to get my head out of my arse and figure it out.
last but not least: mines a five speed. don't get too excited about the prospects of fixing your monty that there is that ONE time you forget to put tranny in neutral with parking brake on. ONE time. Scared the bejesus outta me.
