No you cant... The Mitsu axle has "timkin bearings" on the axle shafts .. The axle ends meet in the LSD at the block.. load against the LSD block.. And you shim the ends .. The non-LSD axle wound not let you 'preloaded' the outer axle bearings ..I would think you could redneck it up (just add in your favorite racial slur here..Now make sure it reflects your own ethnic back ground..) and cut out a plate to fill the space and shim it up .. You cant just cut (grind) each axle either .. do to the block runs into the 'cross shaft' in the LSD.. If you do not Doll up the axle ends and block ends where they meet ..Right.. The axles will saw into the block ..And you well loose perload on the timken outer axle bearings..

Your mine set is right if the axle shafts had 'ball bearing' on the ends .. Ball bearings dont need and dont like reload..
