I own an '88 Trooper II and want to upgrade the brakes (calipers & rotors ). Was the factory upgrade in 1992, if not, which year?

I am not sure what you mean by the factory upgrade. The body style for your rig ran through 1991. The axle in the 1992 is the same axle as yours (Isuzu 12-bolt). The width of the axle did change in 1992 and again a couple of years later.

I can see where my wording, "factory upgrade ", could be misleading. What I wanted to know, are the '92 calipers and rotors larger and do they fit my '88 Trooper II axles?
It's been a few years since I was a member of this great site. I got my 2nd felony DWI 03/01/13 and will be without a license for a number of years, during which time I will endeavor to custom build my Trooper.
It only has 60,000 original miles on it.
I did search the site for my answer.

Thank you,
Michael

My memory is that the newer generation Troopers had 16" wheels rather than 15s, so I am guessing that the newer calipers won't fit inside the 15" wheels. However there certainly is now reason that you can't run the larger wheels on the older body. Craig Eldredge ran 16s on his 90-91 rigs.

That's a bummer as I have 5 mint condition, factory issue aluminum wheels with Cooper 31X10.50s on them with less than 5,000 Miles on them. Guess I'll just have to live with 15" for now. I've got plenty of other mods to address.

I did the "Big Brake" mod to my '90 Troop with transplanted 3.4 V6, and the later-model calipers fit my 15" Snowflakes.

The calipers do come quite close, but they don't rub. And if you did happen to have any issues at all, it's nothing that a set of 1/4" aluminum wheel spacers wouldn't fix.

I heartily recommend the brake upgrade, it's a nice improvement in stopping power. And for anyone who already needs to do a brake job, it's a good excuse to get on with it!

Cheers & Merry Christmas..........ed

Ed, Calmi has two offerings for spacers. 1.25" and 1.5" thickness. Your recommendation was. 25". Are the Calmini spacers too thick?

I just found a number of sources with a Google search. A six-lug pattern for Toyota or Chevy is the same as the one on the Isuzu.

Again, I really don't want to get away from my Isuzu factory aluminum wheels. I believe using the spacers (for now ) will suffice. But thank you for responding and have a very Merry Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season.
