I need to have a Evap Emissions control system on my 87 monty with a starion engine swap. I can not find a new stock replacement vapor canister for a starion and doubt I have any room to mount it anyway. Does any one know of what vehicles have a more compact vapor canister that might work? Preferably with mounting holes. I don't have any junk yards near me to check for myself.
I have the starion purge valve already but not sure how to hook up to the air intake because I have a k&n air filter housing with only one port that is being used by the oil separator. I hope if I tee into that port the vapors will be evacuated sufficiently. It doesn't have to work great because it only needs a visual inspection but if I'm going to the trouble it might as well work.
I also need a catalytic converter as well. How far from the turbo can I mount it? I was thinking of just putting it in place of my muffler but I am afraid it will be to far away to heat up properly with the 2 1/2 exhaust. I have my wideband installed about where the stock montero cat was and don't want to move it too much closer to the turbo.
I miss living in Florida where none of this matters. We are taking the truck to Taiwan for our next post and won't be subjected to actual emissions testing besides a visual one when it goes thru customs. I hope they don't expect an egr system too.
