Sorry, carry on.

I don't drive around with other cars around with the high beams. And On top of that the fog lights are aimed down at about 8*

On my 05 f150 you could ground a relay and make the fog lights stay on all the time. I'm sure the same could be done with the montero with a little bit of thinking.

It really depends on how it was wired up.

In the 98 fsm, it seems that fogs are not restricted to low beam only, but it does seem the fog light switch also turns on the tail lights. I had a euro spec Mercedes 280TE gas wagon that had one fog tail light and one reverse light, fog light came on with the front fogs, and those fogs only worked in low beam. I had the euro spec headlights, though, reinstalled after the grey market inspection, and you didn't need any additional high beam illumination with those big old H4 bulbs...

I'll have to look at it again. I think it shares the same power as the the taillight relay, but I am not aware of any rear fog mode. I'd like to add a rear fog light or two, it gets foggy in Florida more than you'd expect.

WIthout opening the 98 wiring diagram again, as I remember, the fog light switch enables a ground path which branches to both turn on the fog light power via a relay and also the ground path for the tail light relay enable, so the tail lights come on with the fog lights. I see no wiring connection to the headlight circuits, but they may be on the headlight diagram which I did not examine, and in any case, the 2000 may be different.

Interesting. I do not get a rear fog with my front ones on my '99.
