The data I have from rebuilders is that there are no internal differences in the 30-40LE or 30-43LE and that they are interchangeable in there entirety. You just have to watch spline counts and if you have the input speed sensor that you get one with it as well.
From a rebuilder standpoint there would be no internal differences, this is because when you rebuild something you don't care if the replacement parts are weak sauce as long as they work in the end and they are the cheapest possible (Jeep and light duty Toyota parts). Now most would never ever notice or never put their trans to work so hard that that it even mattered.
Having said that i'm sure there are internal differences seeing as how the OEM's didn't just put the same series of transmissions in the heavier trucks because that would have been cheaper. On to the heavier duty Toyota's and the Montero the change over may be slight but it is recognized by the rebuilder parts catalogues. It would be interesting to actually tear both down and see what is actually different, probably something like plastic bearing races vs steel or double vs single rollers I'm guessing.
Here are some good pdf's on the subject

Cat-1 Cat-2 Toyota A transmission I'm no way an authority on transmissions and i agree on the interchangeability between the Montero and the Jeep transmissions but i'm going to stick with there being something different (better) about the Montero transmission especially considering the differences in the Aisin manuals Toy vs Jeep 5th gear bearing like 87Monty showed us in his post . <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
