I've never had an FJ60/62, but I've driven both. They are really no better than the FJ55 waggy I owned, except for fuel injection. Still have the warpomatic intake, still have the twisty frame and the massive rear overhang. Still have the inadequately bearinged F motor, good for a solid 4500rpms max if you want to drive it long. Mine got more capable with a 350sbc and 700R4, but was never great offroad. I do miss the aftermarket 3way locking hubs it had on it (auto, lock, free), but that's about it.

THe gen1 is slicker, better ride, better highway handling, better mpg, stiffer, better suspension articulation, better steering that stays tight longer (Damn that conical bearing on the end of the drag link), and I found the Toyota parts to be more expensive, and less available, but mine was a much rarer model.

And the owner groups tended to be more snobbish. FJ80 was a much nicer ride, but overpriced, too, and unless you had a CAPA supercharger, pretty damn slow.

One redeeming FJ55 trait, nobody ever pulled out in front of me, with the 3"x12" steel tube fromt bumper and the honking big Ramsey winch, but it was a hog in the mud
