Need a Spot
After spending a couple of grand to get my 2.6 engine rebuilt in my 88 Raider, I rolled my baby. It's the 5 speed. So, when I'm looking on Craigslist, and seemingly all the clean bodies are either v6 or automatic, any thoughts on whether it's easier to put my good drivetrain into an auto donor or a v6 donor? or just wait for a 2.6 manual while I'm promising myself not to drive like an idiot?

The auto donor will be easier. Everything should bolt in. Except for drilling out thenslave cylinder hole.

Putting in a 4cyl into a v6 isnt bolt on. The frames are different widths up front and what not.

Why not find an auto and just swap the body onto your frame. Good opportunity for a body lift?

Come visit the Montero Ranch and I'll give you a rust free, rolling chassis 86 Montero with most of the body...and a title. This was a 2.6L, 5-speed and all your stuff could go right in.

Even with the cost of shipping at 800$ that's worth it. I wish I had a garage and could buy a Cali or Arizona truck and transfer all my goodies off my Massachusetts rust bucket. In a few years that's my goal, so if its still for sale then... sign me up!!!!

Thanks for the info. I may have read something about the frames being different for the V6s on here but wasn't thinking about that as much as gearboxes etc. Timely too because I have been eyeing a V6 on cl in Longview TX. Body lift huh?) You saw the post title are you trying to kill me? Ha. Actually depending on the difficulty in swapping bodies, that may be the best since the frame and drive are good. As for the generous offer, I appreciate that very much and will message you to get the particulars. Thanks all for the replies.

Hey oldben63,
Can you post some pictures of your rig? A lot of guys who roll their rigs make it a "topless" rig. I'm curious if you even have the option?

Also, the v6 body won't bolt on either as the frame mounts are different so that v6 isnt of use either.

Didn't mean it in a bad way with the body lift. How did you roll it anyways? I've been cruising with 33s and a body lift for 8 years and this year added 2inches to the suspension. Never had issues with tilting or anything. Was this off road?
