Did you ever check car-part like I suggested? I just checked and I'm seeing them available from $50 and up in NY, $75 in PA for the front diff assy.

Thanks everybody, looks like I can repair it tomorrow night.

I got it on a lift, pulled the dif cover and checked it all out. Gears and splines are all good. The snap ring on the inner shaft appears to be broken / missing, but it will require a few hours of work to replace. The snap rings under both hub covers were each ejected and laying inside intact. I replaced them with new snap rings. With all the snap rings off it was difficult to locate the trouble. I'm hoping that I don't find any deeper issues.

I found where that local parts truck was. Sadly, it is gone.

Thanks again!

Still broken. Inner shaft splines stripped. Still need a front dif assembly. Preferably v6. No longer an emergency. But if i get 4x4 by Saturday, I'll make some loot and help a bunch of people.

Pic of the damage. I'm guessing the gear is messed up too. I didn't drop the dif, this peice slid out.

Has this happened to anybody? I haven't read about it.

As I mentioned before - for the MT V6 swap you will need the CV shafts and front drive shaft too.

Will a diff out of an automatic v6 not fit?

I'm not coming up with these parts / prices on car-part.com. I'm choosing "assembly, front axle...4wd" or something.

Will fit* - not as strong as MT

* - not sure about the need of CVs and front drive shaft, should plan on getting these with the auto also - I'm just not sure on the auto cross match. I have the V6 MT version - so I know. (think I've said this before)

search "carrier" then make a phone call because this is a relatively generic term and may include the entire wheel to wheel assembly or as little as just the center bits. It takes some leg work.

Has anyone verified a difference in the V6 housing, gears, etc. between the auto and stick vehicles?

I have observed a difference in the thickness of the CV bells on the stick truck, lucky Jason talked me out of the pair I had sitting. However, they'd not work with my plan for a Starion LSD in the V6 housing, like Dan (Mongo) has recently installed.

I have a loaded front 4-cyl housing I could send, but not in any hurry due to the present stormy weather.
