Need a Spot
Hello everyone new to the forum but have been doing lots of reading over the past couple months. I have a 89 raider with a v6 and auto trans. I am doing a 2" suspension lift and want to get some wheels and tires. I'm looking at Cooper STT tires in 285/75/16. The wheels I'm looking at are Pro Comp 7069's (16x8 with 4" bs). I am worried about how my trans will hold up with these tires, will it put to much stress on it? Will they totaly just kill my power, I tow a small 6x8 trailer with 2 dirt bikes quite often. Any thoughts greatly appreaciated.

Your transmission will be fine they're rated for something like 350hp. They're practicly bomb proof in our Monteros. You will notice a difference in power but not too bad, it won't be totally gutless or undriveable.

Monty is right on here. You will notice it in the brakes, real obviously. Make sure your brakes are adjusted properly, and personnally I recommend finding a locker rear end and some later model (Gen 2 or better) front brakes.I have lockers in both my 87 and 89, with the bigger front brakes. The 88 is stock, with only 32's. The 87 and 89 will stop on a dime and give you change.

Awesome that really helps thanks a lot guy's! I should have said I am planning on doing gen2 brakes up front for sure (my rotors are warped so it's on the short list). I just can't decide 285/75 or 265/75's. Just keep chaning my mind. I am going to be doing a very special engine swap that hasn't been done b4 in the near future. I had a donar car but after geting the motor up to par I decided to give it to my mom. That's why I'm doing all the other basic mods right away. The motor I will be using will be around 140hp and 240tq but that's all i'm saying for now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> i'll have a full thread on it when the time comes (this summer sometime)

I've read for day's on tires and wheels now and still can't decide LOL. This is going to be my play DD vehicle so want it to do well on the road also.

So i hear that 32x11.5 will rub on stock wheels... is that the steel or the aluminum wheel it will rub with? Also is that stock or with a lift?

I like the old school 15" rims my self. I'm running 33x12.50x15 on 15x8 rims with 3.75 BS Stock. Just need a little trimming on the front bumper and some trimming on the inside of the fenders

I will be doing SR springs and tbar crank this spring.

With a lift there is a good chance they will hit.In the rear wheelwell there is some metal piece that gets close to the sidewall.

Sorry, forgot to mention, I just trimmed it off. This is with running 32X11.50X15's on the "pomegraniite" wheels.
