rxinhed,
What motor is that exactly? The top looks like mine but much of what I would look at to indetify it is covered by the turbo. Is that the 2.0L Mazda RF 14?
If so what year motor and how does it perform?
You are only getting 15-16 MPG? I know the truck is much heavier and the gearing is different but wow?

This is a stock rebuild on a Starion / Conquest 2.6L from a 1987 model. Same basic engine as your MM 2.6L but about twice the HP due to FI and 10psi. There are other threads on the subject, but this is a nice lengthy one: Wire Thread

I see.
I am going to swap to a diesel when I eventually do a swap. I would not put another gas powered motor in the truck.

I know what the numbers say but I also know my little Escort with that 2.0L RF diesel in it will smoke the 2.6L mighty max in a race on low end and top end. I have traveled though KY and TN several times and that Mighty Max will not come close to holding speed through the mountains. You hit those steep grades and your going 50 and worried about being run over instead maintaining 65 or 70. I'm willing to bet that your 2.6 is not running correctly and not making it's full power if this is the case.

After 2.5 years on this board, I've learned one thing: If it can be done to a Mitsubishi 4x4, someone on this board has done it and knows the right way to do it. Learn to Google search, do some reading, and for petes sake get your motor fixed and stop worrying about implausible swaps. </rant>

1st of all do not use all caps in a post to me and tell me to listen. I have been listening. Apparently you have not been reading what I wrote. This was an idea and I wanted to know if it was even possible and weather the motor could handle the truck and if it had ever been done. We got into power issues and facts that were not facts about crappy motors with 300,000 miles on them.
I can assure you that I know many people that own the D-50 and the mighty max and the number 1 complaint is they are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy underpowered. No one I know that has one of these trucks can even come close to running though the hills of TN or KY at speed. This truck I have was given to me and 15 years ago when my dad bought it the truck was like new and had a brand new motor in it that was putting out power equivalent to the factory specs and it would not maintain speed over big hills. It ran flawlessly. For a truck to run perfectly and be so underpowered and still only get 16 or 17 MPG when running properly is not my idea of ideal.
When the motor pukes out I want to go with a diesel. In case you did not notice my recent post where I clearly stated I was unable to find a single case where my motor was put in this truck and that I might just get a different diesel like that of the 2.3L and work on it and get it all set to put in the truck when the time comes.
The length of time a person has been on a site is not as important as the knowledge they can offer in a reasonable way.
By the way this 2.0L has went into other trucks as a swap but not the Mighty Max. Its the reason why I came here to find out weather it would even work or not in this particular truck.
No ranting at me sir. I get irritated easily when people do not read what I wrote and then rant. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
