Getting the Wheeling Fever
Even though the 2.0L Mazda was just an idea to confirm or not it looks like the consensus is to go with the motor you just mentioned when I switch.

Thank you

Get yourself a 4d55 or 4d56, and go to town. Bolt in swap vs uber complex fwd to rwd conversion. I personally think a 4bt conversion would be awesome in a raider.

I also think the 4BT would be a bad decision but for completely different reasons. It way too tall, way too heavy, it is not a balanced engine so it will rattle your teeth out. It would require major mods to the suspension and frame to support the weight. Major mods would need to be done to the drivetrain if you increased the power. A Mitsubishi 4M40 would make a lot more sense. The 4BT is one of most overrated diesel engines out there. While it is reliable there are too many drawbacks to the 4bt to consider it for an engine swap. The are much better options out there these days. I know it was a popular swap 5 years ago but times have changed and this dinosaur is no longer recommended for swaps.

I read a 4bt was around 1100lbs fully kitted (without oil )

The 4D56T weighs about 400lbs, makes the same HP and is a balanced engine.

The 4D56T makes 104hp and 177ft lbs of torque.

The 4BT makes 105hp and 260ft lbs of torque.

While the 4BT makes a lot more torque, it's horsepower that gets you going down the road. Any benefit in torque you would see from the 4BT would be offset by its weight.

The other thing about the 4BT is the tranny and frame mods. While the 4bt weighs 700lbs more than the 4d56T, any tranny you add to the 4BT will undoubtedly add several hundred more pounds to your all ready bloated rig. Before you know it you have a 4300lb truck with just 105hp and 260ft lbs of torque. That would make for slow ride.
