Finally got the parts in (the M/C was backordered, oddly) and swapped them out. When I drained the old M/C it had black goo in the bottom; when I cracked the flare nut loose on the slave cylinder, what came out looked and flowed like partially used motor oil.

Bench-bled both the master and slave, flushed the line, adjusted and bled everything - and now the clutch pedal effort is a good 25% less than before!
