What 'new' (2013, 2014) 4-dr 4wd would you consider to replace a LWB Monty?
Must haves: good ground clearance, 5 or 6-speed manual tranny, 4 doors, locking rear dif, reliable engine/tranny

So far all I have been able to see in the U.S. as possible is an XTerra. What am I overlooking?

90 LWB RS: 3 L/mt, JBaker springs, bushings, swaybars. KYB shocks tweaked, 134k mi, original owner.
97 LWB SR: SOLD Sep. 2014 131,006 mi: running boards removed, BFG 31x10.5 AT/KO tires, Air locker, AirLifts, KYB shocks, Cibie fogs, 3rd owner.

5-speed, 4 doors-ish, decent clearance (with lift), lockers (added), etc...

About US$15k delivered starting in 2015.

Xterra is a POS. I owned one and sold that thing to some poor sap. Very delicate and unreliable. We have considered this ourselves if we ever hit the lotto. Right now we are split between the new Four Runner(have to verify they fixed all the traditional weak parts)or a JK Rubicon. Right now leaning Rubicon. Definitely not luxurious, or detailed fit and finish...or loaded with build quality but you get a real off-road vehicle and about 10,000% more then old Jeeps.

The only SUV even remotely close is the Lexus GX450 GX470, It only comes in a Lexus model though as America didn't get the Toyota model J-120 and J-150 (Aka Landcruiser Prado) It's a bit smaller than the Landcruiser and heavier duty than and larger than the 4runner (even the new 4 runners are tiny inside compared to Montero). Still has a full frame and solid rear axle and since it's a type of landcruiser parts can be had any where in the world. It is NOT a 4 runner although it uses the same springs and axles SO there's your lift kits and suspension mods.

All in all, i'd buy a Gen 2.5 and have it restored to new if i had the money. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I gotta say I really like our '93 SR - So would have to agree on the Gen 2.5. I'm sure its only more refined. Always on the lookout for a clean low mileage specimen.

I like my Gen1. I don't need (or want) a four door. I think a Land Rover Defender 90 would work for me. I doubt it's available in the USA.
