Even better, my next-door neighbor caught the 1st Gen bug years ago and a shop actually mounted 33x12.5/15's on the stock 6" wheels. That's about as tight as I've seen.

It would work, but I'd be very careful to set air pressure with a "chalk check," for proper tread pattern spread. You might end up at some crazy low pressure to get the set-up right, but keep in mind the tires are rated to carry a lot more weight at max pressure than you need them to do, so a lower cold pressure may be the only way to get them to form a good contact patch.
