Getting the Wheeling Fever

Can buy a '94 Montero with 175,000 for 1800.00. looks super good, but owner is in process of replacing belt tensioner, cam position sensor and crank position sensor.
I need a vehichle for my grandson to ride to school and work, would this be a viable option for him? Any thoughts appreciated.
