Sounds like they will hit the show room floors summer 2015...late as always. Wonder how close they will be to the current offerings over seas? Gen 3 will remain a mess headed down the wrong way track it sounds. But at least Mitsubishi is acknowledging real SUV's(not just hatch back cars) are a major market. Or the dealers have forced there hand....

Don't think I'll hold my breath. They have a history of starting out doing the 'right thing' and then going sideways. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I agree, you should hear the dealership management. They are literally begging for trucks and SUVs and have for years and WITH A FRAME because that is one of the first questions a truck buyer asks, and when you say no, they just head over to Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Jeep,Dodge..........The stuff I read MMA saying about the Gen 3 gives me no hope. They blame lack of sales on lack of luxury..do what? Ok, given how far behind the curve they have been I have to assume its missing POWER and some recent gizmos, but that is the least of the problems, it has no identity, as does NONE of there current line up.

The next gen sport has a frame, it's based on the current L200 again. I hear it looks better than the current Sport too

I agree, if it looks like the ones over seas, that is not bad. The old one was pretty plain looking. Now, will they have a locking diff and a powerful, modern engine?

Is the rumor about a Diesel model being available in the US true also?

A new Diesel full framed rig with a locker (and leather trim required with that probably) is about the only thing I would really want to trade my 1999 Gen 2.5 in on as it is starting to show it's age. I have to stay away from the trucks at the GM dealer when I bring my little car in for service.

I would hate to guess on a Diesel. We could be ready for a new SUV in the not ridiculous future. My Checklist;

1. Frame
2. Rear Solid Axle WITH LOCKER
3. Modern engine and HP(no belt, no butterflys,(yes they came back to take out engines again) 275HP+)
4. Reasonable modification capability.(gears, bumpers, front locker ect)
5. Rear coils(should be a given, but lets not go there again)
6. No cup holder over the stereo smile
7. Market competitive pricing

The first 3 are a no go if it does not have them.

Would prefer;

1. Knuckle dragger box grader relocation option.(rear tire carrier)
2. More room then old Sport, but NOT longer
3. True off road option package with REAL tires, front locker, sliders and what ever else they will give me from the factory.
4. Proper diff gearing
5. Better Low range then prior models
6. Old fashioned 4x4 shifter
7. Improved IFS strength

Dream list;

1. Aggressive less "Me toooooo styling"
2. Aggressive and modern off-road package, sway disconnects, tire air system, ect and something to set it apart...how about a factory hot shower?
3. Sat Nav that is pre-loaded with US topo maps and can have others added.

They would have to grow a set to go back to a frame...but they would not be the first auto maker to do that. Biggest issue I see is it would make the Gen 3 look sillier then it already does, and even harder to dump on buyers....

The Sport has a frame, they never went away from that. The Montero is dead and the Montero sport while not as awesome as the first two real Montero generations is still true to it's L200 heritage so there is hope for this vehicle as long as they don't strike out again by doing something like making it fully independent suspension or unibody.
