Here's to hoping we don't get the next gen Montero, another knife in Mitsubishi's coffin is not what they need here.

Here's the specs on the current Montero Sport, there is hope for this vehicle though. Same ol' stuff we like; a frame, solid rear axle, locker option. Looks to have a good approach angle and it'll look nice with that plastic bumper rolled up in the trash can.

From what I was told by my old contact at Mitsu (he's now working at GM's Cadillac division )... The issue here is the US crash safety standards are not body on frame friendly. Unibody is where the industry is going because of their ability absorb impact.

If that's true then I doubt we'll ever see a new Montero utilizing a Body on Frame chassis.

I am ok with those specs, although I could care less about the 20.00 a Gallon Diesel engine. The plastic bumper is mandatory for crash BS, but that does not have to be a problem. Nissan Xterra has a great approach after you remove the bumper, and its only a few bolts. They did that on PURPOSE. Unibody may be better for achieving some crash tests, but on a big, heavy truck or SUV you can get away with out it. Its more for cheap assembly I believe.

I agree, you should hear the dealership management. They are literally begging for trucks and SUVs and have for years and WITH A FRAME because that is one of the first questions a truck buyer asks, and when you say no, they just head over to Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Jeep,Dodge.......... ....

Yep. Same here in CO. We're on the edge of losing one of the last two Mitsu dealership chains here in CO. Nothing to sell in a state that lives in SUVs and trucks. I don't know who's in charge of Mitsu NA, but God help them if I ever meet them.

Is the rumor about a Diesel model being available in the US true also? ....

I'd be nice but the last time they thought about this it got canned because of emissions issues.

Don't know how accurate it is, but I'd also heard this at the dealership a few weeks ago. According to to them, the Sport will be available late 2015. 'Course, I've heard THAT before, too ....

The new Montero/Pajero looks sharp, but not compared to its competitors in the same category where its outfitted with more luxury. Land Cruiser, Lexus GX, Land Rover, etc.

I've also been hearing more talk on the 3000GT forums that they are looking at introducing more vehicles in the next few years that are more eco friendly (hybrid/electric/gas) Theres even been talks of a 3000GT successor. Even GTR is looking more at electric/gas powered sports car too.

Who knows what will happen. But I heard its more like 2-3 years out

Looks like they just updated the old Montero suspension, I like the struts and new UCA design. Notice the control arm adjusting cam, they'll be really easy to lift and keep aligned.
