She got her license 12 days ago and I gave her my Jeep so she could drive to school..
She wrecked it this morning! A pickup with a utility trailer carrying a Bobcat pulled out from a side street and she hit the trailer on the wheel fender.. He got the ticket!
The font end is gone both fenders, hood, grill, both air bags, radiators and fan have went south.
The rest of the Jeep is good. The doors work and have good spacing. Even the front bumper is undamaged.
I'm wondering what it'll cost to repair. I should know tomorrow. It seems most times Jeeps are simply totaled.
I'll post pictures as soon as I find my picture site.

I trust your granddaughter is uninsured??

CJ, YJ, and TJ/JK are basic bolt on hood, fender, and grill parts. Air bags will be the most expensive item to replace.

There are several aftermarket companies the produce OEM style or a style for oversized tire clearance.

Omit-Aida or Rugged Ridge are good sources for part numbers.

Seems the driver of the truck got five tickets. Including no license! He is an illegal alien, but was permitted to drive away after receiving the tickets. One good note is the uninsured motorist insurance will take care of the repair or replacement.
The granddaughter was shaken and bruised from the belts. Also had a red spot on her forehead from the air bag hitting her. Although she doesn't remember the air bag opening! All she knows about the air bag is that it was lying there limply in front of her.
We chose to have it towed to a local Jeep dealer, having had bad experiences with fly-by-nights and automotive repair.
Don't know anything yet about the repair as the insurance company is taking their time.

Air bag deployment is quick. I was sitting in traffic and happened to be looking to my right when the car in that lane was rear ended. The airbags deployed but I don't recall seeing it and I was looking right at it.

I understand that airbag replacement is expensive, depending on model, up to $2000. In SoCal, they are an attractive item for theft.

Glad to hear your GD is okay...

If it was up to me I'd be going to eBay for the bags. Here is an exact fit both bags for $150 delivered. Should be child's play to install em. http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-2001-Jeep-Wra...ee6&vxp=mtr

Pricing seems reasonable. I wonder what the price is throught the dealer for parts and what they rate for install time.

Body Damage is Cool
Many times you end up replacing the module, and clock spring assembly also. That little capacitive charge has a way of frying the clock spring, and most of the time, the sensors in the module are one time and gone types....Be cool...Mike <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Mike
That's why the used parts guys sell the module with the bags.. Didn't know that. As a side note I recently installed a new clock spring in the wheel, now only to find it'll prolly need another.
