Yea it should be interesting to see if there is a marked difference in power. It was amazing how much carbonized oil deposits were in the lower intake and intake ports of the heads..about 1/8" of buildup.
I am thinking of installing a catch can to catch oil between the EGR and the intake to remove it before it get back in. still researching that a bit.

![[Linked Image]](https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7176/14116259731_2a8a3d8c50_c.jpg) Cleaned up upper intake and cleaned out EGR ports. noticed heavy casing marks on the edges of the runners, decided to smooth those over a bit. ![[Linked Image]](https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2926/13932883947_990f14f084_c.jpg) Still a little smoothing out to do.

Here's my version of the mitsu special tool... ![[Linked Image]](https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7312/14132247361_021bc82b9f_c.jpg) I used a drill bit for the "pin" this pic is after the tension was set and then checking after rotating crank 360 degrees. ![[Linked Image]](https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7373/13946162248_8eceb378b1_c.jpg) This is where I ended tonight, almost there. Need to bolt the battery tray back in,install batt, put air cleaner and pipe on and tighten the exhaust flanges....hope it starts. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> ![[Linked Image]](https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2896/14153662561_564c5119b8_c.jpg)

Forgot to add that I took the alternator in to the clowns at autozone to get tested due to an intermittent light on the dash going on then tuning off after a while..replaced a dead battery not too long ago so it was suspect. It failed, of course autozone wanted to sell me one of their lifetime remans for over 200 bucks. No thanks. Some of you may remember how many of those I went through on my 89. I found Amazon had these OEM Brand Denso's (re-manufactured by Denso with Denso internals for $128. Not bad considering this is a 100 Amp Alternator. ![[Linked Image]](https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7340/14177062253_680ce88efa_c.jpg)

Jay should be the same SOHC 3.5 but I cant garantee it. My castings were G7S4FR. Hi Justice, I was able to pull the engine on my 1997 over the past few days. Actually, I helped my wife pull the engine. I found that we have the same cast number for the cylinder heads. Thought you should know. Justice, did I miss an update on your rig? How is it working? ![[Linked Image]](https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10356398_10203289451231523_5680389680710008955_n.jpg)

It runs great. Idles smooth plenty of power, But it has a noise that I believe is coming from the bottom end. I'm thinking a bearing gave way down there due to the over heat. Win some loose some I guess. I'm thinking I'll look for a good used 3.5 or 3.8 and swap the new heads over then swap it in. Daughter drives it to work and it does fine though I'm not comfortable towing my boat with it the way it is. Picked up a Gen 3 the other day so that will be handling the towing duties.
