Body Damage is Cool
I have not had much luck and finding anything. i have been pouring sewing machine oil down the opening to see if I can help break up whatever the gunk up is. It is drinking the oil but no progress in getting it to budge.

What stinks more is the fact I am home for Easter break and I will not be able to fix it before going back to school, so I am going to be stuck without it.

I am not looking forward to taking that annoying cross member and try to fish the cable from the engine on top of the tranny.

Thanks for yalls help. if yall have any luck finding a better source for the part and an easier process of doing this repair. Thanks Mongo for the pics and your thread.

Drop the pan (you should do that anyway to get the sewing machine oil out of the tranny - not good for it at all) and manually pull the lower end of the cable where it hooks on the throttle valve to see if you can free it up. If you use a solvent, use dexron, which is just full of detergents. All this will cost you is some time and a pan gasket and some Mitsu tranny fluid.

I was plan on doing a tranny flush after I got it to free up, but yes it looks like I will have to drop the pan and do things the hard way. This will be a good time to replace the temp sensor. Just need the thread locker we talked about.

What Eddy is telling you is the easy way. Hard = dropping the valve body (or so i hear - i did it this easy way).

Here are some pics of what you'll find inside. throttle cable replacement.

I called my dealer today and he gave me this part number. MD 609487 - $86.57. Hope you don't need it but if you do call Oakland Mitsubishi and ask for David. There are several in stock around the country.

I will be starting on this project tomorrow. I hope the cable is not completely froze up that it will not release. Once i get it released, what lube is best that will not cause issues to the tranny fluid?

I really hate having to deal with all that shifter linkage and dropping that cross member. I have done that enough times. I got me a cable set up from a 93 I was going to fit in my lwb. But I am going to sell both soon once they are fixed and then start all over after I graduate college.

Hopefully I will not need to get a new one, but thanks for the part number if I do need to get one.

ok I tore everything down and was able to get the cable to go back and forth but still seems to stick at each end. Is there any good penetrating lube I can get to work down the housing? And once I get it moving smoothly is there a lube that can be used to keep it from binding?

Also when I took down the pan there was a gray sludge coating the magnets. no shavings or particles. Is that ok?

I was reading the manual and it says that rtv is to be applied on both sides but when I took the pan off it only had sealant on one side. What is yalls recommendations?

If I am not able to get it to work how quickly can do dealership parts take? Will a dealership send to your house?

Oh yeah it is a little devil to hook and link the cable in, but a good pick set has helped with it. While I had everything off I cleaned the crossmember to look like new.

Got it fixed. It works really well. it took alot of working with that cable to coach it to work itself out. then I replaced the tranny temp sensor, which is another awkward project, but not too bad.

It shifts pretty good, but it seems to be a little high in 2nd to 3rd gear. In the past it seems to shift around 3500 rpms, but now it seems to be shifting closer to 4000rpms. Should i be concerned?
