I'm looking at redoing my venting system on my big '97 Sport. What I have now is kludgey and bulky and I'm just not real happy with it.

I have two ARB locker solenoids which blow vapor all over the passenger side of my engine bay. The front differential vent hose and the dual t-cases run to between the battery and brake master cylinder. Transmission isn't vented any differently than stock.

I was thinking of this for the t-cases ... Allstar Mini Breather Tank, but it's still kinda bulky and I'd have to cut the roll-bar mount off and build a bracket.

This for the ARB air lockers ... ARB Solenoid Vent. Run the hoses down towards the bottom of the engine bay. I'd still want something on the end of the hose to keep crud out.

This seems like overkill for one diff ... 4WD 4x4 Diff Breather Kit. And, I'm afraid I'll just have the same problem with the front diff as I do with the fumes from the ARBs. At least with the fuel filters I run on the end of the hoses now, there's some area for the fumes to condense - they're not just exhausted straight into the engine bay. I also think those sintered filters sitting out in the open are going to get crudded up pretty quick. Something easy to plug up is probably not a good idea.

You guys have any nifty ideas? I've been surfing for a while now and there's lots on running the hoses but it seems not too many people think about what to put on the end. smile

I'd tee all the lines together and use a single vapor/oil seperator can (Moroso sells a good one) and vent it downward with a mesh filter on the end. The seperator catch can collects the liquids, and the vapors pollute the air. Starions used a similar system on the pcv outlet hose to keep oil droplets off the turbo, with a drain line for the liquids back to the crankcase, the latter not an option for you. The Moroso can removes with a quarter turn and you dispose of the goo in your dump of choice.

Nice! That's a great idea! I have sight tubes on the t-cases and I run the ARB diff covers so checking fluid level is really easy. I should put one on the transmission, too, but haven't gotten around to it.

Something like this would keep crud from dripping all over the ground for whatever stupid reason. I heard that at Easter Jeep a non-leaking/dripping vehicle is required if you run any of the organized trail runs. Good idea on many levels. smile smile

So, ...

ADD W1 Black Baffled Universal Aluminum Oil Catch can Reservoir Tank Ver.2

and something like this on top ...

I thought about this ...

JEGS Performance Products 52205 Air Oil Separator

with one of these

but I'm not too thrilled with the idea of a polycarbonate bowl. I have serious doubts about a couple of these standing up to the temps in the engine bay in Moab in the middle of July. And, their not that big, either. Which is good and bad.

easiest moroso, with the easy drain and good hardware. McM/C looks like overkill.

Moroso above lacks a return air feature, which may cause some very mimor confusion for the ecu. Whatever air goes to the crankcase doesn't return to the intake. This is good and bad. None of the nastiness in the vented/seperated air goes back into the engine. The old starquest system recirc'ed both vapor and oil, oil to the pan and vapor to the intake upstream of the turbo. This one does neither. There is a theory floating around the since the vapors cool in the tank, they also condense out some of the bad stuff boiled out, back into the oil. The Moroso lets you dump it overboard, and look for things like lots of water, gassy smell, etc., which can lead you to fixes ahead of catastrophe.

I use a catch can on my supercharged Camaro, and I also used one before it was S/C'd, simply because it's direct injection and there's no fuel spraying the back sides of the valves, not to mention any of the intake tract, to help wash the gunk away.

Got this one ordered. Slightly smaller and slightly cheaper than the Moroso unit. ADD can version 2 and one of these Tank mount to mount; their mount is kinda retarded.

I'm not going to use it for PCV/crank case ventilation, etc. Just front diff and the air lockers. I'm going to start with the air lockers. Probably both into the 'IN' and then run the diff into the 'OUT'. The diff just needs a vent, but the lockers puke oil all over the place all the time.

I already filter the valve cover to intake. If this tank works well, I'll pick up a version 1 for the PCV. I've known for years how much crud gets sucked into the intake from the crankcase. Nasty!
