So from what I've always read here is that the locker option for Sports got dropped around the same time as the 4.90 option began. Hence am suspicious of those axles on ebay. Between the axle, shipping, and installation (need to pay someone to weld perches and all) sounds like a small fortune.

88 Montero, StarQuest turbo, Kormex 5speed +tuff-pan w/phoenix f. stage2 clutch, 4in lift+33' tires, 4.875 lsd, short-throw shifter, Aisin hubs, SR big brakes, gen2 uca's, elantra alt, and so much more... 16g turbo w/hardpipes + 4.90 locking disk-brake axle soon (maybe lsd or aussie front??)

So a leaf sprung sport axle is a direct bolt in (no instal costs) and can be found easily in yards for $50. Then I can grab a 4.90 non locking third member.... also cheap and comon. Then grab the locker setup from a 95/96 SR, also cheap and comon. This way I can build what I'm need with no fabrication for $150. Correct? (Ive seen various info and have no clear yes/no)

Thanks.

And haz... nyc is fairly communist on newer cars. Anything pre 1996 is a safety inspection only. With how rare mitsu trucks are here, I highly doubt any tech would even know a solid axl wasnt stock if done clearly. Legally my 2.6turbo is also a no go here, but again, who would know its not stock. The biggest catch of all, I'm a mechanic and NYstate vehical inspector... yeah.
