Getting the Wheeling Fever
Any deals out there? I have a costco battery that gave up the ghost after 4 years. Should I get a new costco battery or get another brand? Do any of them last longer than 4 years?

Thanks!

Just a starting battery? Deep cycle?

I've been a fan of the costco deep cycle myself but if I were to need something more then I'd look at the sears diehard platinum deep cycle batteries.

As for the pretty colorful Optima's? I wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole. Been burned by them before. Don't get me wrong. Their support even sent me a replacement battery which proceeded to last only 6 months.

I buy from Les Schwab - a NW dealer. They have excellent customer service and they have a shop in almost every Oregon town. If I have a problem (battery, shocks, tires) they are usually reasonably close. I don't believe they can match Costco for price, but the service in the boonies is worth it to me.

You realize there are only 2-3 manufacturers of batteries right? It's all pretty packaging.

go to your local interstate battery store and ask if they have any shop batteries , they are batteries that they have had on the shelf for over a year and are half price. they will test them right in front of you. the one i bought for my land cruiser tested 98% you can get what ever size you desire.

And I'm sure if the EPA has their way that will be 0 in the US in a few years.

Getting four years out of a battery is pretty good. Three is almost incredible in Phoenix. I buy all mine at WalMart these days, since I'm too cheap to have a Costco membership. I wedged in a group size 27S, which I think is the largest size for either a Gen 1 or 2 that fits, has the right terminals and has the terminals on the correct corners.

I've gone to WalMart MAXX 24N for both our Gen 1 and Gen II Montys. Get 5 to 6 years here in the Northern Nevada high desert. I like their warranty and reasonable core trade in. Plus the nationwide availability. Also use a MAXX in our Subaru Forester and the so-called marine 29 version in our Chalet camper.

I had a yellow top in my jeep and now in my montero. That's all I will ever buy for my vehicles. You can drain them down to nothing and they will come back.
