Getting the Wheeling Fever
Any deals out there? I have a costco battery that gave up the ghost after 4 years. Should I get a new costco battery or get another brand? Do any of them last longer than 4 years?

Thanks!

I've got a Walmart deep cycle marine. They are made by Johnson Controls. No complaints. It's the largest that would physically fit in the battery area, I think a Group 25 but not 100% sure. I like deep cycle batteries, especially if you have a winch.

I would go with AGM battery

Sears Die Hard Platinum has got good reviews

The down side, cost. And if you run them down low they might not take a charge with an older battery charger so you might have to buy a new one

The upside, less up keep and they can be placed anywhere without much worry, and can take the extreme heat and vibration

I'm still running the OPTIMA red top battery that came with my jeep and that's pushing 10 years old. That was before they were owned by johnson controls, and I have not heard good things about the new optima's

for a flooded battery I would use Deka batteries

There are only a handful of battery makers now. Most brands like Costco and Sears are just brands. They dnt mske anything.

New optimas have crapy reviews. Not like your old one.

I went to Napa (they know me and get me the best prices) and measured the biggest battery that could fit. Got something like a 900cca battery. Even if it dies and only puts out a third of that, it still might just start.

Just a tip regarding charging AGM batteries if they get fully discharged. Connect jumper cables between a known-good battery and the AGM battery, then place a charger on the good battery and charge until both are full.
