90-91 are about the same although there may have been some minor tweaks.
Haven't looked at the later engines since I was always after the 3.5L in the gen 2's.

Usually horsepower changes like this are from better castings on intake manifolds, larger port sizes, maybe slightly different ignition/ fuel maps. Maybe different grade of fuel used for testing. I would look at upping torque more than horsepower.

My take... Later years had small improvements in the intake and fuel injection system.

87 Turbo Intercooled Raider, roller cam, torsen rear diff, LSD front diff, lockup auto with modified converter, V6 brakes, low transfer case gears...
