I have used a Curt 4-bolt hitch that just bolts up to the factory bolt holes to pull a pretty big pop-up camper up into the mountains and down dirt roads for camping, as well as pulling a dual-axle trailer with a bunch of furniture on it for a couple of hundred miles with no issues. The pop-up was heavy enough to warrant the use of a trailer brake control, which I really liked, but you do have to have a 7-wire connection and the appropriate interior wiring and a brake controller for that.

And yes, I know, I probably shouldn't be doing these things with such a light duty hitch, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
