What is wrong with the speedo cable? If the outer housing is fine, you can replace only the core square cable thing, which just slips out. If it's just a twitchy needle, you can pull out the old core and relube it and reinsert (I've used an electric drill on slow to put the core back in, wiping on lube as it inserts in the housing.
