Looks like I need to get a new one. I just replaced it in 2011 and it broke again. Are all these pulleys 2 piece or can I find a one piece?

It has to be two piece. It's a harmonic balancer and the rubber insert absorbs the harmonic vibrations from the crank, and if it wasn't there, there is a large chance of crank breakage when the torsional vibrations reach a harmonic and amplify to dangerous levels.

I'll be removing the pulley today. Is there a process to put the pulley back together or do I need to get a new one?

Been under the monty all freakin day and I am no closer to getting it done than I was this morning.
Aside from not being able to stop the engine from rotating while I loosen the crank bolt, I can't get the A/C compressor belt tensioner to let go of the belt.
Any ideas? Am I going about this wrong?

I used a tusk atv/mc clutch holding tool to keep it things from rotating when I torqued my harmonic balancer down. Looks like this ![[Linked Image]](http://gnarlyparts.ca/images/tusk-clutch-holding-tool.jpg) Other ways could be a strap wrench or propping a beaker bar and bumping the starter if you don't have an air gun to break the bolt loose.

You have to loosen the bolt in the center of the idker pulley before you turn the tension adjusting bolt on top of the idler pulley bracket.
I use the breaker bar on the dside frame rail method and bump the starter to loosen the crankshaft bolt. As a true rednek, I use a sledge hammer to retighten the crank bolt, but I do not recommend this method due to liability concerns.

Your working on that 4 door V6? Is the balancer you have that broke OEM or a Dorman/NAPA Chinese made? I wonder(unles its Dorman) if you've got some crankbalance problems that made this failure. I've used the starter to brake the bolt loose, too back when the torque spec was lower. Last week I welded up a wrench like they use on 90+ FMS. I'll be buying an OEM shortly and at $200 I don'twant to nick anything on it.

It was probably a Chinese pulley. I paid a shop to do it last time since I had nowhere to work on it. It cost me roughly $300
I has a shop and the replacement part, which is OEM now.

I'm saving up for the OEM. Gonna start my new engine up hopefully in a week or 2. I'll have an old 91 OEM on it. If things turn out OK I'll get the OEM asap. I got 2 in from NAPA a few years back. Chinese and they weren't packed properly,,,both had a chunk of the v belt part busted off,,,,A blessing in the long run.
