Been awhile since I've been on... so, I've got a 91 RS on 35" KM2's, SR air-locked rear, Aussie front, sliders, sundry armor and some light scratches... I wheel sorta hardish. Nothin like dem AZ boys, but enough to necessitate carrying CV axles and several tie rods when I go.

Anyhoo...

I'm having issues with Aisins. I've blown 2 in the last year, both times the passenger side. The cast piece inside cracks and depresses the spring keeping the hub lock light illuminated. These things aren't cheap and are getting scarce. I know we have a source for new hubs on here, just have a hard time justifying the price right now. The Rugged Ridge ones have been deemed crapola, so that's not an option. I'm thinking about GenII drive plates. Swapping to them at camp and then swapping back to Aisins around town for the fuel economy. Unless i can figure out why I'm busting Aisins...
Thoughts?

It just doesn't make sense to me either, knowing you have that front locked like that.

Any chance you might have backed up a slope or something putting a lot of weight on the front wheels and put a lot of torque through that corner?

The reason I asked is I am pretty liberal with my skinny pedal too, just out of fun more or less and I didn't ever blow a hub until I was loaded up in reverse backing up a slope (I have an Aussie up front too). Even just going slow, I got too much traction turning in reverse and BOOM.

Honestly don't know when it blew on the trail... I just knew that the light wasn't going off when I was coming home. And, no, there's no way I did something like what you described... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

I had an issue with aisins and made the superwinch switch and have never looked back, avm hub is the company that made the hubs for super winch the "red dial" version is there HD version which they make the locking ring out of a stronger material and recommend for and rig thats locked. this company sells them for a pretty good price on ebay

Right on! I'll grab a set for the next swap... Until then, I'll go with plates. Thanks for the recommendation. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
