DITTO the cooling system comment above. It is my theory, based on many, many years of 2.6 n/a and turbo experience, that the cooling system must be properly maintained, with the first task on an unknown car to be having the radiator rodded out and tanked, and a new oem thermostat. It will take it off the road for about 3 days, and keep your son from getting lot's of practice in pulling the head to replace blown head gaskets.
My congratulations to him for good sense, or terminal mental illness, take your pick. Have him call on me with any questions, and I'm sure the other starquest gurus on here, or the starquest boards will as well.

SHP? [/quote] Special Handling Package; an option that included adjustable struts (if I recall, they were long gone) and the wheels as stated above. I also installed a new vacuum advance (a common fault) and the cat(s) were plugged, so they were gutted. Made a heck of a difference!

Rich, I can't believe it. I used to own that car! Did he buy it from a guy named Johnny in OKC? How much did you sell it for? Johnny Dale is bringing his 1978 Magnum to my shop this weekend so I can help him drop in his 440.

I have also driven that car. I remember Monte3 hitting the invisible brake on the passenger side when he let me drive it around. It pulled impressively.

It's been several years, but if I remember it was just north of 3K. Rich, PM me your email address, and I'll send you a pic. JB, you'll have to come up and drive the yellow one...and if you bring the Camaro, the Vette!

So we picked up some new front rotors from Rock Auto. The rotors look fine but there is no races for the bearings? Anybody know where to purchase?

I had to look at the fsm to see for sure. The rotor is bolted to the hub, which has the races and bearings. You have to pull the hub to get at the bolts that fasten the disc to the hub - they go in from the back side.
You need to download the 88 conquest fsm. I can send you a .pdf if it's not on mitsubishilinks.com.

You were expecting the brake rotors to come with new bearing races? Is there something wrong with the existing bearing races that would make you want to replace them?

The reason I am changing rotors to begin with, is because they seemed to have come loose from the hub.
