Out of the blue, I was offered a Gen 1 today. 90 RS LWB MT. An aquaintance approached me at the boatyard and said he'd seen my Monty and wanted it to go to a good home sine he doesnt use it much anymore. It needs a little TLC. The paint is definitely old. The interior has seen better days, but it's all there. 221k miles. Tires have a little life left. He just returned from a 300 mile road trip so i know it runs. Price: $1k.

I'm deciding what to flip this weekend so I can have the cash to do it without the War Department finding out and putting the damper on my plans. And I'm trying to figure out what to say when she does find out and gets angry anyway since it will bring our transportation fleet up to 4 vehicles, 9 boats and 4 bicycles. Like I dont have enough to maintain already.

Rust free, running Gen 1 with a MT for $1k. Am I nuts to put myself in the path of wrath?

Oh, and i still have spare LSDs for front and rear, extra gen 2 parts and bouncy seats.... She's soooo gonna kill me.

"Well, you know the trucks are great to drive, but it takes a while to fix them when they break, so I thought we needed a backup..." this has the advantage of being completely true...

"I bought it for a friend and he is coming to pick it up soon..." Said friend then has a financial catastrophe...

And, as stated, just apologize. They will forgive almost any car sin, given enough time and distraction..

X2

What i do is keep a steady rotation going so new trucks showing up is just the norm. Eventually it catches up to you and she'll say things like "This one is too nice for parts" or "Only $500? you can't not get that"
The other side of the coin is that with your truck collection being so fluid she might start making suggestions for them to go too. So always be on the lookout for new trucks that way when one goes out you can get another in quickly.

FE - you are right on the money!

I'll probably flip it quick and stash the money for that Fuso I've been eyeing.

Turns out I'm passing on the rig. A friend wants it which means I'll be working on it anyway. I could've bought it fixed it up and then he would've wanted it anyway. I'd have to sell it to him for my out of pocket $ and a few pennies for my time. At least this way my inevitable wrenching in the future will beget much more beer and food than those mere pennies could have purchased. I won't end up sleeping on the couch and I get to drive it. I think this is working out.
