Ok. Talked to the seller yesterday and it has a blown head gasket. Don't know how bad. He sent some pics today and the truck looks pretty good. Like it was the typical grocery getter. LS not SR that I was hoping for, since they have lockers, but he said he'd take a thousand. It has the 3.5 24v engine. And with 200k miles what else needs work? Should I go ahead and pull both heads and have them rebuilt while I am in there? Of course the water pump, tensioners, belts get done. What else does the top end rebuild need?

Check to cooling system for excessive mineral deposits. May be worthwhile to have the radiator core rodded as well as the entire cooling system flushed out.
Rear locker swap from an SR and you're all set. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Has a new radiator. I'm thinking it may have gotten hot enough to crack a head. Got an estimate of $350 each for new heads and $800 to have them pull and replace them so if I take it to them and it needs two heads $1500. Starting to think about a replacement engine? It's been sitting a while, what if water has gotten down into the cylinder? Can I tow it on a dolly with the trans in neutral?
Based on limited experience, I think it may damage your transmission (assuming it's an automatic).
When I had to tow mine 200+ miles using a front wheel tow dolly, we first disconnected the driveshaft from the rear diff.
Either that or you leave the engine running I guess to keep the transmission fluid cooled.

is it the couble cam or single cam head? It my need the intake butterflies fixed, which takes some fab or a new upper intake.
Pull the driveshaft and towdolly it. Unbolt the dshaft from the rear diff and ratchet strap it up with tension to the front to hold it in the tcase and save the fluid. 12mm and 14mm wrenches is all you need to pull it...
Had the day off today, went to look at it. It's a SOHC, and the price was dropped to $700! . There were issues like the fan shroud is just gone and no third seat or roof rack (not that those are big things) all the center caps missing, little things that make me wonder about maintenance. The engine compartment was oddly dirty. Not mud, I dont think its really ever seen any, but just a funky coating of oily weirdness on everything. The whole thing was to get a truck or something the wife would drive if I was using her truck, but without a serious scrubbing on the interior, she's not gonna go for it. On the other hand, $700!!! Anybody know the going price on a complete engine?
Keep in mind that the missing fan shroud is probably related to the engine problems in some way - either it was a contributor to an overheating problem or a shop left it off in a half-assed repair. Planning to replace the engine sounds like your best plan of action unless tearing down the existing motor shows something fairly simple like a blown head gasket. Finding a good replacement motor is going to be your biggest challenge.
